The Quiet Blessings of God’s Garden

I am witnessing the quiet blessings of God in my garden.

What an awesome time of year it is indeed.

We are fortunate to be able plant and grow vegetables and herbs, in the fall and in the spring here in Florida.

I, as an observer, watch what is bearing fruit not only in my garden, but in my life.

We can get all hung up on what is wrong in the world, but God yearns to get our attention to what is right in our lives.

My garden work cart was full of dirt and cow manure for my planting pots at the beginning of the year. My goal was to keep the cart free from excess weeds and scoop up the soil when I need it.

However, the little garden angels had another plan.

The changing of the tides, along with much needed rain, intertwined with the busy fingertips of Angels gently carried the seed around my garden to where it needed take root and grow.

My garden cart is now filled with the beauty and fragrance of Lemon Basil. A dear friend gifted me one small Lemon Basil plant earlier this year and it has multiplied.

I knew I was bearing good fruit in my life as my grape vine exploded with grapes this year. My little fig trees have new green leaves and will give me a second crop of figs.

Behind my Strawberry pots (the birds and I shared the strawberries) are my wondrous Rosa Rugosa (Rose Hips) bushes.

I found myself at different times praying for God’s help while working in the garden. It seemed each time I prayed, the next day one of the roses on the Rugosa bush would bloom. This went on all year.

I have an abundance of Periwinkle. This plant showed up one day and took root in the corner of my front garden. I affectionately call this area, “God’s Garden.” Found in the mix with Periwinkle, reaching towards the sky is Bleeding Heart.

I use Bleeding Heart as Flower Essence for grief. Bleeding Heart has an affinity with the Blessed Mother. No one suffered as Mary did, watching and walking with her beloved son, Jesus to Golgotha.

I am reminded of the beautiful song, written in 1912 by C. Austin Miles and his vision of God’s garden.

Miles describes sitting in a darkened room and taking up the Bible for inspiration.

The writer says, “My hands were resting on the Bible while I stared at the light blue wall. As the light faded, I seemed to be standing at the entrance of a garden, looking down a gently winding path, shaded by olive branches. A woman in white, with head bowed, hand clasping her throat, as if to choke back her sobs, walked slowly into the shadows. It was Mary. As she came to the tomb, upon which she place her hand, she bent over to look in, and hurried away…. Mary reappeared; leaning her head upon her arm at the tomb, she wept. Turning herself, she saw Jesus standing, so did I.”

“In his presence is power and there is power in his presence”, and I find his blessings in the simplicity of the garden. I hope you will too!
