What is the ‘Home Church’ movement?
The ‘Home Church’ movement began during the ministry of Jesus, and continued after his resurrection.
What did Jesus say? “On this rock I will build my church, and death itself will not have any power over it.”
In this passage of scripture, Jesus was speaking with Peter. There are two key words in this passage.
The first is ‘rock’. Rock means the foundation that Jesus laid for us through his teachings and his ministry.
The next word to note is ‘church.’ The definition of the word ‘church’ means people and not an institution, dogmatic rules or a physical building.
The early followers of Jesus had no building or place to meet. They began meeting in their homes.
It was the desire of those who followed Jesus and wanted to carry on his teachings, to gather together in one place. All the believers devoted themselves to the Christ’s teachings, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. (Acts 2:42)
They prayed, broke bread together and carried the message of the ‘Good News’ to all who had ears to hear and an open heart. “My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all of God’s people.” (Ephesians 1:18)
